As construction moves forward on the Virginia Creeper Trail, collaboration across the region continues to play a central role in supporting a safe and successful restoration.
Throughout the month of January, Kiewit coordinated closely with local emergency services — including the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, Abingdon Fire Department and the Bristol Virginia Fire Department Task Force 4 Technical Rescue Team — to conduct a worst-case-scenario mock rescue drill. The exercise, held January 20, was designed to test emergency response procedures, strengthen coordination among agencies and ensure preparedness for work on the trail’s terrain.
Kiewit thanks the Town of Damascus, the City of Abingdon and the City of Bristol Virginia along with their emergency response teams for their continued support and collaboration in the Virginia Creeper Trail Reconstruction Project.
